What is Ergonomics?
Ergonomics is the way we look at the designs of tasks, tools, equipment, workplace layout, and the overall organization of the work to fit the job to the person, rather than the person to the job. In order for employees to work as efficiently as possible, we must accommodate the employee’s body by providing a safe, comfortable workplace.
The Fiscal benefits of an Ergonomic Intervention
The benefits of implementing ergonomics in the workplace would seem to be common sense. Unfortunately, ergonomic improvements are often viewed only as expenses. Instead they should be seen as investments, realizing the return they bring in terms of improved productivity, decreased absenteeism and turnover, and lowered insurance and workers’ compensation costs.Three points must be understood:
- Ergonomic improvements increase productivity and preventing work place injuries.
- Simple changes have immediate and far-reaching results.
- Ergonomic improvements increase worker productivity by 10-20%. Given the average worker is productive about 5 hours a day, or 300 minutes, that comes to an increase of 30 to 60 minutes a day.
The Solution
The best approach to preventing repetitive strain injuries in the workplace lies in the science of ergonomics and employee education. By understanding ergonomics, risks for on-the-job injuries can be reduced and costs associated with injury can be controlled. Lotus Heart Posture Alignment will assist your company in creating a healthier-happier workforce, free of pain and impairment, create an ergonomic environment, and educating employees so they have the skills to prevent injury.
